In a bold political move that has sent ripples across Kajiado
county’s political landscape, Hon Judith Pareno a top-ranking Principal
Secretary in the current regime has officially declared her intention to
contest the Kajiado senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections,
setting the stage for a fierce showdown against the incumbent governor, former
governor Dr Nkedianye , who are widely
considered one of the region’s most powerful political figures.
Speaking during a high-profile stakeholder event earlier
this week the weekend, PS Pareno who is known for her firm leadership and
dedication to public service said her decision to join elective politics was
driven by a deep desire to champion accountability, social justice, economic
inclusion at the county level not forgetting her journey to transform Kajiado County.
“For years, I’ve supported people especially my two brothers,
but now I want to be at the forefront of legislative change. Our people deserve
a strong voice in the Senate one that will defend devolution and ensure
equitable resource allocation,” declared Hon Pareno.
Her entry into the race comes at a time when political
temperatures in the county are rising, with observers noting that her
candidature poses a significant challenge to the incumbent governor and former
governor, who have long maintained a tight grip on the region’s political
machinery. The governor is rumored to be eyeing a national position and is keen
to influence the choice of the next senator.
Sources close to the PS’s camp indicate that she enjoys
strong support from youth groups, women’s movements, and sections of the civil
service, who view her as a symbol of integrity and fresh leadership.
However, political analysts caution that the road ahead will
not be easy. “She is taking on a well-entrenched political figure with vast
networks, resources, and experience in grassroots mobilization,” said Felix Odhis,
a political commentator.
Still, the PS remains unfazed. “It’s not about who has more
money or who’s been in politics longer. It’s about who can deliver real results
and stand up for ordinary citizens,” emphasized Hon Judith.
As campaigns intensify, the county is bracing for one of the
most closely watched electoral duels, one that could redefine the role of women
in high-stakes politics and challenge long-standing political dynasties.
