CHANGING THE UNCHANGED : HOW KAJIADO LANDS DEPARTMENT HAS RESTORED HOPE OF INVESTMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Over the years Kajiado county has been on the lime light  for Land injustice and Fraud this has led families fall apart and community hopes chattered for generations.

In Early 80's the Numbian Community decided to invest on land in Kajiado  at a place called Kisamis where a well known leader sold more than 100Ha of land to the community who then were not Kenyan Citizen as per the Law ,today the community is among the 45 tribes recognized by the Constitution .The dispute has been at the National Government  Kajiado West Sub County offices for ages now  an issue that soon will be settled following the recent robust changes that has happened in the department of Land ,Housing Planning and infrastructure in Kajiado County with the Leadership of H.E.Joseph Ole Lenku . 


Today it's 9 years Since  Kajiado Governor H.E Joseph Ole Lenku became the governor ,various  changes have occurred round the County through the assistance of Lands ,physical planning ,housing,urban development and  municipalities department  led by CEC Hon Hamilton Parseina.

Hon Hamilton Parseina a politician and proffesional who is also believed to be the governor's blue eyed man embarked on a mission together with the team at the Lands department to salvage the county from the hands land cartels  who on deliberate occasion grabbed and sold Lands  with family issues,sold land belonging to orphans and widows,according to Hon Parseina and the Team some of  these  issues wouldn't  be solved by isolated  intervention and Short term administrative measures.

Guided by the leadership of  Governor  Joseph Ole Lenku ,the Kajiado Lands department has Seen  recorded achievements since 2017 - 2025 ;Validation of 43,942 ,14,922 land transfers ,issuing of 39,837 allotment letters  and processing  of 100 lease  certificates.

The achievements led the research and survey company Rank Kajiado county among the The 5th county out of 47 counties nationally as the Best in County in Managing Lands,Planning and infrastructure compared to how things were done before with the manual system in place ,incomplete land records and unresolved ownership claims a move that led many in viewing Kajiado as a place that delays investments and with many land disputes that has led to loss of property and life.

Upon placing strategies and policies in place the Department is finalizing the operalization of  4 new municipalities that is Namanga,Oloitoktoki,Poka -Kinyewa and Mashuru to join the list of the 3 commonly  known municipalities Kajiado ,Ngong and Kitengela.

The Urban Centers under the municipalities have created a framework that people feel the importance of county government to the people due to ease and accessibility to services  ,it's now very to get claims of land injustices following the mechanism and land policies in place. 

The department's mandate has extended well beyond traditional land administration. It has provided strategic leadership in physical planning, municipal development, affordable housing, environmental stewardship, public land management and digital transformation. Together, these interventions have laid the foundation for orderly urban expansion while safeguarding the county's natural resources for future generations.

A defining feature of this transformation has been the shift towards evidence-based planning. The completion of the County Spatial Plan, supported by complementary planning frameworks and policies, has provided Kajiado County with a clear roadmap for sustainable growth. Instead of reactive decision-making, development is now guided by long-term planning principles that balance economic growth, environmental conservation and social inclusion.

The expert team led by Hon Parseina CEC Lands  ensured that technology to be a key pillar of modern land governance.These investments have modernized land administration and established a digital foundation for future innovation.
