By Martin Masinde Consolidated cargo traders and consolidators have welcomed President William Ruto’s intervention in the ongoing dispute over taxation and clearance of consolidated cargo, saying the measures agreed with the Government will provide relief to an industry that plays a critical role in Kenya’s import and trading sector. The traders, under the Kenya Association of International Cargo Consolidators (KAICC), thanked the President for what they described as his personal intervention in addressing concerns surrounding the taxation and clearance of consolidated cargo. Karauri said the 2027 gubernatorial contest should be anchored on integrity, transparency and accountability, arguing that voters deserve to know the financial backgrounds of those seeking to manage the capital city’s resources. He questioned how some aspiring leaders had accumulated significant wealth and urged them to demonstrate that their assets were acquired through legitimate and verifiable sources. “Those seeking to lead Nairobi must be ready to account for what they own and explain how they acquired it,” Karauri said, according to remarks circulating publicly.
