Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has announced his departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), signalling a major shift in his political journey ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a media briefing on Monday, Nyoro said he had consulted widely before making the decision and would work with like-minded leaders to chart what he described as a new political direction for the country.
Nyoro said his move to PPK was made after engaging various political leaders, including opposition figures, and urged Kenyans to consider the party as part of the political alternatives ahead of the next elections.
The Kiharu MP also indicated his willingness to work with leaders within the Linda Mwananchi political camp as efforts to build broader political cooperation gain momentum.
Siaya Governor James Orengo welcomed Nyoro's move, saying his entry into the opposition fold could open a new chapter for political cooperation among leaders seeking a common platform.
Nyoro's departure from UDA marks a significant political development, given his previous prominent role within the ruling camp. He has recently been increasingly critical of the government's record and has said he intends to work with like-minded leaders across the political divide.
His move to PPK is expected to reshape political alignments as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
With Nyoro now openly embracing cooperation with opposition leaders, attention will turn to how the People’s Party of Kenya fits into the wider Linda Mwananchi coalition-building efforts and whether the new alliance can attract significant support across different regions of the country.
