A Nairobi-based lawyer Ilham Hisham has been recognized as the Best Outstanding Pro Bono Lawyer in Kenya during the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Kenya) 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner held on Friday night.

The award celebrated the lawyer’s exceptional dedication to offering free legal services to marginalized women and children, helping them access justice in cases ranging from gender-based violence to property rights disputes.

Speaking during the ceremony, FIDA-Kenya Executive Director Anne Ireri commended the awardee for their unwavering commitment to justice and human rights, saying the recognition symbolizes the spirit of service and compassion that has guided FIDA’s mission over the past four decades.

“This award honors not only the 200 individuals but the many legal practitioners who continue to walk with the vulnerable, ensuring that justice is not determined by one’s financial ability,” Ireri said.

The honoree expressed gratitude to FIDA-Kenya for the recognition, dedicating the award to all lawyers working tirelessly to bridge the access-to-justice gap.

FIDA-Kenya, which was established in 1985, marked its 40-year milestone by celebrating individuals and institutions that have contributed significantly to advancing women’s rights and legal empowerment in Kenya.

The gala dinner brought together members of the legal fraternity, government officials, civil society actors, and international partners to reflect on four decades of promoting equality and justice for women.
