MOSITET PLEDGES TO TRANSFORM KAJIADO INTO AN INDUSTRIAL HUB

Incoming Kajiado Governor Eng. Peter Mositet has outlined an ambitious economic agenda focused on positioning the county as a leading industrial and investment hub, with manufacturing, value addition and job creation at the centre of his development vision.

Mositet says Kajiado's strategic location, proximity to Nairobi and access to major transport corridors provide the county with a strong foundation for industrial growth and investment. His proposed agenda seeks to leverage these advantages to attract investors while creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs, youth and small and medium-sized enterprises.

A key pillar of the agenda is the establishment and expansion of industrial parks and manufacturing zones across strategic areas of the county. These facilities would provide space and infrastructure for businesses involved in manufacturing, agro-processing, construction materials, livestock value addition and other productive sectors.

The proposed industrialization drive would also focus on value addition to local resources. Instead of exporting raw agricultural and livestock products, the agenda seeks to encourage processing and packaging within Kajiado, enabling farmers, pastoralists and other producers to earn more from their products while creating employment along the value chain.

Mositet's vision further emphasizes strengthening Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by improving access to business support, skills development, markets and investment opportunities. The approach is intended to empower local businesses to grow into competitive enterprises capable of creating sustainable employment.

The proposed plan also places emphasis on technical and vocational skills development, with the aim of equipping young people with practical skills relevant to the emerging industrial economy. Partnerships between the county government, training institutions and private-sector investors would be critical in preparing a skilled workforce.

The industrialization agenda comes at a time when national policy is placing increased emphasis on manufacturing, agro-processing, MSME development and county-level industrial growth. The national government has identified agro-processing and industrial parks as key components of Kenya's industrialization strategy.
If implemented, the vision could see Kajiado move beyond being primarily a market for goods produced elsewhere to becoming a producer, processor and exporter of locally manufactured products.

According to the proposed agenda, industrial growth would not only increase employment opportunities but also expand the county's revenue base, stimulate innovation and strengthen economic opportunities for communities across Kajiado.

The vision of making Kajiado an industrial hub is therefore positioned as a long-term strategy aimed at building a more diversified economy—one where local resources are transformed into finished products, businesses have room to grow and young people can access meaningful economic opportunities within the county.

"Our vision is to build a Kajiado where opportunity is created locally, where our resources are added value to here, and where our young people can find meaningful opportunities in a growing industrial economy," Mositet's agenda states.

The proposed industrial transformation agenda is expected to form part of a broader development plan centred on investment attraction, infrastructure, skills development, enterprise growth and economic empowerment.
