A recent visit by a delegation from the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) to the Senate has ignited political speculation in Kajiado County, with observers questioning whether the move signals the beginning of a political comeback for former Kajiado Senator and current KIRDI Board Chairman, Peter Mositet.
The delegation, led by Dr.Francis Polong , was formally received in the Senate by The Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye during the routine courtesy call that brought together senior researchers, directors and technical experts from the institution. Senate leadership welcomed the team and acknowledged the critical role KIRDI plays in advancing industrialization, research and innovation in the country.
While the official purpose of the visit was institutional learning and engagement with Parliament, political analysts and residents of Kajiado have interpreted the appearance as carrying a deeper political message. The speculation stems from the fact that Mositet, who currently chairs the KIRDI Board, remains an influential figure in Kajiado politics despite having been out of elective office for years.
Mositet's political journey began in the Senate, where he served as the first Senator of Kajiado County following the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution and the establishment of the Senate under the devolved system of government. During his tenure, he built a reputation as a vocal advocate for devolution, pastoralist communities and infrastructure development in Kajiado.
Political commentators argue that the Senate remains the institution most closely associated with Mositet's rise to national prominence. Consequently, KIRDI's engagement with the Upper House has reignited debate over whether the seasoned politician could be positioning himself for a return to active politics ahead of the next General Election.
"The symbolism cannot be ignored," noted one political analyst. "Mositet's political star shone brightest in the Senate. Seeing an institution he chairs interacting with the House where he made his name naturally raises questions about his future ambitions." Stated Mr Titus a Resident in Kajiado county
Supporters of the former senator have welcomed the renewed attention, describing him as an experienced leader whose expertise in governance and public service could still benefit Kajiado residents. They point to his continued involvement in national development through KIRDI and other public engagements as evidence that he remains politically relevant.
However, others caution against reading too much into the visit, insisting that it was a routine institutional exercise. KIRDI has in recent years intensified collaboration with government agencies and parliamentary committees as part of efforts to promote research-driven industrial growth and innovation across the country.
Nevertheless, in a political environment where every public appearance is closely scrutinized, the Senate visit has provided fresh fuel for conversations about the future of Kajiado politics. With the 2027 political landscape gradually taking shape, many will be watching closely to see whether Mositet's association with the Senate is merely coincidental or the first indication of a carefully calculated return to the august House where his political career first flourished.
For now, neither Mositet nor KIRDI has commented on the political interpretations surrounding the visit. Yet, the discussion it has generated underscores the enduring influence of a leader whose name remains firmly embedded in Kajiado's political history.
